HOT DOG IN CAR

A Rottweiler puppy found in a locked motor vehicle in the parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings prompted a response to the restaurant by Officer Rose Michel around 11 a.m. on July 22.

The reporting party, who stayed with the locked vehicle for more than 30 minutes, stated that the dog was in a blue 2004 BMW with its windows down approximately one inch, and looked in distress due to the heat.

Michel met with Warwick Mall security on scene, and observed that the canine was panting and hiding in the passenger seat footwell before attempting to unlock the vehicle. As they did, Jose Monegro, 23, of 35 Goddard St., Apt. 2 in Providence, approached with a soft drink and a Buffalo Wild Wings bag.

Monegro said he was the vehicle and dog’s owner, and unlocked the car door and removed the animal at the officer’s request. He stated that he ordered takeout from the establishment, was not in the restaurant for long, and had left the windows down to give the dog air.

Michel issued Monegro a ticket for notice of Ordinance Violation of 4-133, animal confinement, with a court date of Aug. 11. The dog was returned and placed back in the vehicle with air conditioning.

STOLEN TOOLS

A Cavalcade Boulevard resident visited Warwick Police Department headquarters on July 22 to report a larceny of tools from her home’s carport.

The woman told Officer Thomas Greene that on July 17, she put numerous tools away, including two nail guns, an air compressor, a toolbox filled with screwdrivers, ratchets, shears, plier, hammers, and more, as well as a power washer. The following morning she went outside to continue working on a roof project to find all the tools missing.

She does not suspect anyone in particular at this time, and will provide police with a list of stolen items and their values. The resident stated she wished to press charges if the subject is found.

SHOPLIFTING

Nordstrom loss prevention contacted police for a report of shoplifting after a suspect concealed a pair of gray dress pants in his sock and ran because he didn’t want to get caught.

Officer Ryan Lancaster responded to the 400 Bald Hill Road location to find a suspect, Brian Ramos, 43, of 34 L Drive in Westport, Mass., in custody with the store’s security team. Shop representatives informed Lancaster that they had witnessed Ramos take the article and exit the store without attempting to pay. When approached by security, Ramos is said to have attempted to flee before being detained.

The taken Hugo Boss brand pants were valued at $47.98, and before apologizing for his actions Ramos reportedly admitted to the officer that he had intended on stealing the pants and had no intention of paying for them.

Ramos, who had his 15-year-old son with him, was charged with shoplifting with a mandatory court date of Aug. 8 before being released on scene. He has been issued a no-trespass order for the Warwick Mall.

OUTSTANDING

WARRANT

An unbuckled seatbelt near Conimicut Point led to the arrest of a driver for an active bench warrant.

Officer Alfred Silveira was on routine patrol in the Conimicut area on July 23 around 8 p.m. when he observed the operator of a 2000 Nissan Altima not wearing his seat belt.

Silveira initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Anthony DeSimone, 33, of 108 Dunnell Ave., Apt. #3 in Pawtucket. A search revealed that DeSimone had an active bench warrant out of Third District Court for a failure to appear.

DeSimone was issued a warning for the seat belt violation, was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant, and later transported to the Adult Correctional Institution. The vehicle’s owner, who was a passenger, drove the vehicle from the scene.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Cans of cold Busch Light beer, some open and empty, led to a DUI charge against a driver on July 23 at around 9:30 p.m.

Officer John Curley was on routine patrol that evening, traveling westbound on Division Street, when he observed a pickup truck swerve over the road’s double yellow lines and into the eastbound lanes, nearly striking a vehicle head on. The truck then swerved back into the westbound lanes and accelerated.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle came to a stop on Quaker Lane after merging. Curley observed an open can of beer on the driver’s side floorboard. When asked, the driver, Frederick Tanner, 54, of 68 Maple Ave. in West Warwick, stated that he was coming from down the street and was heading home.

Curley asked Tanner if he had been drinking, to which he reportedly replied he had one. While conversing, Curley detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed slurred speech and bloodshot and watery eyes from the driver.

A series of standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, after which Curley concluded Tanner was impaired and unfit to operate a motor vehicle safely. A later motor vehicle search revealed three unopened, cold beer cans and an opened, empty can.

Tanner was taken back to police headquarters, where he reportedly refused a breath test. In addition to the DUI charge, he was issued a summons for laned roadway violations, presence of alcoholic beverages while operating a motor vehicle, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, first offense, with a court date appearance scheduled at the Third District Court on Aug. 9.
