ASSAULT

On February 8 at approximately 4:36 p.m., Officers Quentin Tavaras and Walter Larson were dispatched to the Greenwich Avenue Stop & Shop for a report of a fight in progress.

Upon arrival, the officers searched the parking lot for the possible participants but were unable to locate any suspects. A bystander approached and advised that those involved in the altercation had left the lot after the fight ensued within the store and that neither party was on scene.

Officer Tavares then entered the supermarket and spoke with the manager on duty, who stated that moments before he had observed an unknown male customer strike another man, knocking him down to the ground. The attacker then immediately fled towards the store’s exit, and once outside he got into a gold Honda Odyssey. The store manager provided the officer with the license plate number and described the man as around 30 years old, between 5’5” and 5’8” tall, of Latino descent with a music note tattoo under his eye.

According to the report, the officer then spoke with the victim, who said that while walking through the store with his daughter he observed a male speaking loudly and being vulgar. He advised that he heard the man swear several times, which his young daughter heard. He then approached the man and asked him to use a better choice of words, as there were women and children nearby, and then turned around. As he turned, the suspect then proceeded to punch the left side of his face, knocking him to the ground.

Photographs were then taken of the victim, whose face suffered some bruising and swelling beneath his eye. Officer Tavaras then conducted several vehicle checks on the license plate, however, the number provided was not registered to a gold Honda Odyssey. After the police report was taken, it was forwarded to department detectives for further investigation.

MISSING TIRES

Officer Matthew Higgins was dispatched to the Courtyard by Marriott on Jefferson Park Road for a larceny of tires from a vehicle.

At the scene the officer observed a white Toyota Camry in the southern area of the lot, which was missing all of its tires and rims. He then spoke with a hotel employee at the front desk who stated that an unidentified patron had advised her of the situation with the car. The hotel worker stated they had no record of who the car belonged to. It was also discovered that the car was registered to a company and no name was attached to the vehicle.

There were no other vehicles damaged in the lot, nor any other cars missing tires and rims. The car also did not appear to be broken into by suspects. The hotel worker was advised to relay the police report number to the last known operator of the vehicle should they come to the front desk to report the incident. The report was then forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Albert Marano was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Target on February 11 around 1:47 p.m. for a report of a female in custody for shoplifting.

At the store the officer met with the loss prevention officer who advised that he had observed a woman, later identified as Renee Green, 38, of 1147 Elmwood Avenue in Providence, cashing out some merchandise at a register. She was then observed proceeding to the back wall of the health and beauty section, make multiple selections, and place them in her purse and inside the plastic Target bags. She then passed all points of sale and attempted to exit the store. She was then apprehended by security and brought to the loss prevention office, where $70.09 worth of merchandise.

Green was then arrested, handcuffed and transported to police headquarters where she was booked and processes. She was charged with one count of shoplifting, Background checks revealed that she was on probation and had violated her parole. She was then secured in a cell for the next hearing with the bail commissioner.

Assault: If you speak to someone who is already behaving in an antisocial or "off the beam" manner, don't turn your back on them. This uniquely identifiable individual shouldn't be too difficult to locate; I'm sure his excuse will have something to do with being "disrespected", "having a bad day", or some type of imagined discrimination.
