Mello said the man told her this was the first time in the 12 years he had the boat that something was stolen form it. He said his neighbors at the marina told him they would keep an eye out for his property but they did not have any suspects or witnesses.

MISSING MOTOR

Officer Alfred Melucci reported a 2007 15-horsepower Mercury outboard motor missing from a boat at the Brewer Yacht Yard at Folly’s Landing on May 28. The owner told police the motor was worth about $1,500. There were no suspects or witnesses.

CLOTHING OPTIONAL

Officer Joshua Myer reported he was dispatched to the beach outside of Iggy’s restaurant around 10 a.m. on May 30. Myer reported that he found a man asleep with no clothes on. He said he asked the man what he was doing and the man told him he was homeless and that he had been washing his clothes and laid them out to dry when he fell asleep. Myer said he ran a check on the man and learned that Charles Blake, 62, with a last known address of 33 Hamlet Ave. in Woonsocket, was wanted for failure to appear on a willful trespass charge out of Lincoln on March 22. He was taken to headquarters where he was processed and then transported to District Court.

TIGHT SPOT

Officer Hovsep Sarkisian reported he pursued a car he saw come out of a parking lot at a high rate of speed around 2 a.m. on June 5. He said he clocked the car at 51 miles per hour for a quarter of a mile as it wove from lane to lane several times on Jefferson Boulevard. He said it continued for several hundred yards before he finally made an abrupt turn into the Holiday Inn Express and into a parking lot. He said the driver was attempting to get out of the car when he found he had parked too close to the next car and could not open the driver’s side door. Sarkisian said he told the man to stay where he was and keep his hands in sight as he waited for backup to arrive. He said he then approached the car and told the man to get out of the car and the man said, “Please don’t arrest me. I wasn’t trying to run.” Sarkisian said he put the man in handcuffs and put him in the back seat of his cruiser. He said the man claimed he had no identification but Sarkisian ran the man’s name and date of birth and learned that his driver’s license was suspended. He said the owner of the vehicle arrived to take possession of the car and Devin Armstrong, 20, of 8 Tucker Rd. in Smithfield was taken to headquarters where he was charged with speeding, laned roadway violations and driving without a license. He was later released with a summons.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Eric Lima reported arresting a Bradford man for shoplifting at the Wal-Mart on Bald Hill Road on June 6. Loss prevention told Lima they watched the man remove a security device from a television set and wheel it out the door without paying for it. Loss prevention said they stopped Ralph Boss, 28, of 16B Vars Lane, in the vestibule and escorted him back inside to wait for police. He was charged with stealing a 32” television priced at $288. Lima said he recovered a syringe from Boss that Boss told him he used for injecting heroin. Lima said he later disposed of the syringe after releasing Boss with a summons.

Tanya J. Brown, 38, of 1674 Plainfield Pike in Greene, was charged with shoplifting at the Target store in the Warwick Mall on June 4. Loss prevention at the store told police they saw Brown put a Keurig coffee maker under the basket of a shopping cart and checked out her other purchases without paying for the coffee machine. Officer Gilda Fortier said Brown told her she forgot that the $139.99 coffee machine was under the basket but Fortier told her they had video surveillance of the whole incident and did not believe her story. She was charged with shoplifting and later released with a summons.

Officer Julio Benros reported arresting a Pawtucket woman for shoplifting at the Rainbow Shop on Bald Hill Road on June 5. A clerk at the store said she saw the woman take two dresses into a dressing room and concealed one of them before leaving the store without paying $19.99 for it. The clerk told Benros she stopped the woman in her car in the parking lot but she refused to get out of her car and return to the store. Benros said Sheila M. Baribault, 39, of 7 Brown St. was taken to headquarters and charged with shoplifting and later released with a summons.

Deanna L. Simmons, 57, of 17 Bates Ave. in Coventry was charged with stealing a set of curtains worth $24.99 from the T.J. Maxx store on Bald Hill Road on June 5. Loss prevention told Officer Quentin Tavares she concealed the curtains in her purse before she left without paying for them. She was later released with a summons.

Sherman White, 48, of 25 Oak Ave. in East Providence was charged with obtaining money under false pretenses on June 9. Officer Matthew Moretti said he reviewed video surveillance that showed White taking a Shark vacuum cleaner from a shelf and proceeded to the return counter where he exchanged it for a $158 gift card. He was later released from headquarters with a summons.

DUI OR REFUSAL

Officer Melissa Schlitzer said she was dispatched to an accident with no injuries in the area of 2800 Warwick Avenue around 4:15 a.m. on June 4. She said a Honda CRV was in a ditch at the side of the road and a man was unsteadily wandering around the roadway. She said he was dazed and could not answer any questions for Warwick Rescue or police at the scene but refused treatment from Rescue. She said he admitted he had been drinking “too much” and said his identification was still in the vehicle in the ditch. She said he agreed to but failed a field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters where he refused to take a breath test. Adam T. Gallagher, 33, of 1087 Flushing St. in Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with leaving his lane of travel, DUI and refusal. He was later released with a summons.

Officer Joshua Myer reported he was dispatched to a traffic stop at Warwick Vets High School around 6:35 p.m. on May 26. He said Lt. Brad Connor asked him to conduct a field sobriety test on the driver, who smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be drunk. He said the driver complained about finishing the test after he failed the first part and had to be told repeatedly to do the one-leg stand, which he failed as well. Myer said the driver acknowledged hitting some other vehicles at Oakland Beach but said he had already spoke with the owners and there was no hit and run. He said the driver refused to take a breath test at headquarters and became irate when they told him he was going to have to give them his personal property before being put in the cell and they forcibly took his boots off. He said he also tied his shirt to the bars but he said he was only trying to get their attention. Myer said he continuously banged on the walls. Victor R. Arriaza, 36, of 203 Legion Way in Cranston was charged with DUI, refusal and laned roadway violations and later released with a summons.

Officer Rose Michel reported she was on patrol when she saw a car go through a red light, stop in the middle of the intersection and then back up behind the stop line at East Avenue and Bald Hill Road around 12:50 a.m. on June 3. She said she pulled the car over at Chuck E. Cheese and noticed a strong odor of alcohol on the driver. She said she asked the woman to take a field sobriety test and agreed to take and then failed it. Michel said she brought the driver to headquarters where she refused to take a breath test. Meagan E. Freeman, 23, of 2236 Cranston St. in Cranston, was charged with DUI, refusal, running a red light, driving on an expired license and having no proof of insurance. She was later released to a sober adult.
