WRONG NUMBER

A Cranston man was charged with disorderly conduct and told not to come back to the Walmart on Aug. 3 after he went behind a counter and threatened a sales associate in the electronics department. Officer Joseph Mee said employees at the store told him how the man, who was upset that his new pre-paid phone did not have his old phone number as requested, started yelling at the Walmart people who, according to the manager, had nothing to do with the actions of the pre-paid phone company and had no control over the situation. The sales associate said the man slammed a phone behind the counter and was actually behind the counter and, instead of leaving when he was told to, turned and threatened to wait for the employee outside. After talking to witnesses and viewing surveillance of the incident, Mee arrested Edward J. Mann, 54, of 112 Eden Crest Dr., Cranston, was charged with disorderly conduct and later released with a summons.

Officer Daniel O’Connell reported a nine-foot inflatable dinghy and outboard motor went missing from a larger boat that was under repair at the Harbor Lights Marina on Aug. 1. The owner told O’Connell he came to check the progress of repairs on the larger boat and discovered that the Zodiac Zoom dinghy was missing. He said a 9.9 horsepower outboard motor was with the dinghy. He said the dinghy was worth $2,500 and the motor cost $2,800. No suspects or witnesses.

Elderkin said he got out of his cruiser and approached the man and told him to shut the car off and get out of the car for a field sobriety test. He said the man smelled strongly of alcohol and became agitated and confrontational and accused Elderkin of trying to humiliate him. Elderkin said he then told him he was not going to continue because he was “too drunk to complete the test.
