NEVER MIND…

Officer Raymond Cox reported he got a call from Weymouth, Mass. man, on Sept. 1, who told him that he was in Warwick on Aug. 31 shopping at the Bed, Bath & Beyond store when he heard his license plate announced over the PA system of the store. He said he went to the manager’s office and was confronted by a woman who had his plate number written down on a piece of paper who claimed that he hit her car in the parking lot. He told Cox he denied doing anything like that and suggested that she contact the Warwick Police and conduct a proper investigation. He told Cox the woman promptly turned around and left the store. Cox said he checked around and found that no one had contacted the Warwick Police about an accident involving a blue BMW at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Cox made the report for informational purposes.

EXPENSIVE WIRE

Officer Adam Arico took a report of a boat being vandalized behind a building on West Shore Road sometime between Sept. 15 and Sept. 23. The owner explained that he kept garage space and stored several boats at the site and he found that someone had cut miscellaneous pieces of wire cable from his 18-foot Pearson boat. Arico said the wire that was taken had a scrap value of perhaps $100, but the damage done to the boat would cost around $3,000. No suspects or witnesses. The boat owner requested that police do occasional checks on the space because this was not the first time things went missing from the place.

OUT OF CONTROL

Officer Maryellen Jessop reported she was dispatched to the La Quinta Inn on Jefferson Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 for a disturbance. The staff at the front desk had called police because a woman there had assaulted one of their employees. She said she checked the area when she got there and then was told the woman was back in her room but was still swearing and acting out of control. Jessop said they found a belligerent and drunk woman in the room and arrested her for disorderly conduct and assault. Michelina F. Mulher, 23, of 399 Ocean Spray Ave. in Satellite Beach, Fla., was taken to headquarters and held for the Bail Commissioner. She was later released on $1,000 surety bail.

CHECKOUT TIME

Officer Gilda Fortier reported she was dispatched to the Radisson Hotel on Post Road around 11 a.m. on Sept. 22 for another hotel guest causing problems for the staff. The manager told Fortier the woman checked in several days before and had several visitors going in and out of her room the night before and he suspected drug activity. Fortier said the woman herself appeared to be very disoriented. She didn’t know what the date was and guessed it was 3 p.m. Fortier said she also spilled a bottle of nail polish on her lap and her hands were covered with the polish. It appeared she tried to paint her fingernails and toenails with little success. The manager said there were items missing from the room and he suspected they were in her luggage. Another officer asked her permission to open her luggage and she agreed. She said they found soaps, toiletries, towels, silverware, a coffeemaker, mugs and a tray, all of which belonged to the hotel. The manager said he didn’t want to press charges but he did want the woman warned to stay away from the hotel or be arrested, which she was. Patricia A. Lynch, 45, of 106 Old Douglas Pike in Webster, Mass., was also wanted by the Cranston Police on two arrest warrants and two other warrants out of District Court. She was later released to the Cranston police.

WHAT BOTTLES?

Officer Joshua Myer reported taking a shoplifting suspect into custody at Haxton’s Liquors on Bald Hill Road on Sept. 20. The manager told Myer he saw a woman bolt out of the store without buying anything with a blue bag in her hand. He said he caught up with her in the parking lot and saw her taking two bottles of vodka out of the blue bag and put them into a backpack. He said he asked her if she had a receipt for the vodka and the woman replied, “What bottles?” The manager said she did confess to taking the two bottles worth $53.25. Margaret A. Ayers, 62, of 132 Union Ave. in Warwick was taken to headquarters and charged with shoplifting. She was later released with a summons.

CALLING CARD

Officer Quentin Tavares reported a hit-and-run accident at the corner of Universal Boulevard and Bald Hill Road on Sept. 22. A woman there told him she was waiting at the light to get on to Bald Hill Road when her car was hit in the rear. She said she got out to assess the damage and the man driving the other vehicle asked her if she was all right. She said she was and he then told her he would pull over but instead of doing that, he took off down Bald Hill Road. The woman said he left a piece of his front end in the road and she thought it was his license plate. It was, and the plate was traced to a Coventry man who denied he was involved in the accident and said both plates had been stolen from his car. He was arrested anyway on an outstanding warrant and his car was towed to Warwick headquarters for further investigation. But, he eventually did admit he hit her car and took off because of the warrant and his suspended license. Stephen M. Mullen, 52, of 102 Hopkins Hill Rd. in Coventry was charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident and then remanded to the ACI on the outstanding warrant.

DUI

Capt. Kenneth Furtado reported he was on patrol around 2:25 a.m. on Sept. 11 when he saw a van traveling south on Jefferson Boulevard with no lights on. He said he turned around to catch up with the van as it crossed the double yellow lines doing an estimated 70 miles per hour before it pulled over near Williamsburg Circle. He said the woman driving appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. He said she denied drinking but admitted she had two Percocet an hour before. She also denied that her lights were out and flipped the switch several times. He said he had another officer do a field sobriety test and the woman failed it. He said he found a prescription for the Percocet in the van that had 10 pills remaining from 60 pills that had been issued to her on Sept. 2. Officer Jamey Petit took the woman to headquarters where she blew a .192 and .200 blood alcohol content on the Breathalyzer. Petit said he did the math and determined that, at two pills a day, she should have had 42 pills left, a discrepancy of 32 pills. Amanda C. Gomez, 29, of 177 Greeley Ave. in Warwick was charged with DUI and later released with a summons to a sober adult.
