SHOPLIFTING

Kathleen A. Taylor, 30, of 76 Lockwood St., West Warwick, was charged with stealing $63.92 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at Rhode Island Mall on Feb. 9. Loss prevention said she concealed the goods and walked out of the store without paying. She was later released with a summons.

Judy Lombardi, 57, of 9 Harbourd Rd., Johnston, was arrested for stealing $139.47 worth of women’s clothing from Nordstrom Rack in Warwick Mall on Feb. 8. Loss prevention told police she was seen on camera as she removed clothing from the racks and ripped the tags off and then concealed the clothing before walking out of the store. She was charged a felony as a habitual offender.

LARCENY

A Cranston woman came into headquarters on Feb. 7 to report that she was working out at Gold’s Gym on Bald Hill Road when a set of diamond stud earrings were stolen from her locker. She said the locker was not secured at the time. No suspects or witnesses.

A student from CCRI came into headquarters on Feb. 7 to report he left his iPad in the lobby on the second floor at the school around 9:30 p.m. and was home in Coventry before he realized it wasn’t in his bag. He said he asked if it was turned in by anyone the next day, and campus security said it was not. He said it cost $499.99. He said it was password protected and a charger was with it. No suspects or witnesses.

An Exeter woman told police she was at the Christmas Tree Shops on Quaker Lane on Feb. 7 for only a few minutes before she realized that her purse was missing from her shopping cart. She said she reported the theft and personnel found the purse under a shelf in the back of the store. She said her checkbook, a debit card, store cards and her iPhone were gone. No witnesses or suspects.

Officer Kevin McGuire reported he was dispatched to PETCO on Quaker Lane on Feb. 5 for larceny from a motor vehicle. A Warwick woman said she was parked in front of the store while she was inside for a while and noticed that her purse and wallet and her iPhone were missing when she returned. She said she thought she locked the car but also noticed that the key fob was gone from her car keys and she suspected she may have dropped it and someone picked it up and clicked it to see which vehicle would respond. There were no suspects or witnesses.

Officer Adam Arico was dispatched to TGI Friday’s on Centerville Road around 12 midnight on Feb. 13 to speak with a Cranston man who said he was in the restaurant working on his computer from 10:30 p.m. until midnight. He said he locked his SUV before he went inside but noticed the driver’s side door was unlocked and stuff had been moved around inside the SUV. He told Arico he was a designer of BMX number plates and that a number of his prototypes were taken from the vehicle. He said three BMX jerseys, 24 one-off number plates, 20 prototype plates, 25 samples and three fabric swatches were missing. He estimated that they were worth around $1,000 and he had no idea who did it. There were no witnesses.

A Richmond man told police she and his wife left their Cadillac Escalade in the parking lot of Bertucci’s on Post Road around 7 p.m. on Feb. 12. He said they ate dinner and returned to the vehicle to learn it had been broken into and his wife’s purse, containing her $400 Prada wallet, a blue Otter Box case and iPhone worth $400 and his own Donald Oliver shoes worth $380 were missing. No suspects or witnesses.

DUI OR REFUSAL

Officer Kerri-Ann Leigh-ton said she stopped a Jeep she saw swerving all over the lanes on Warwick Avenue around 12:40 a.m. on Feb. 8. She said the driver smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. She said he failed a field sobriety test that she stopped before he completed it. Richard J. Savage, 48, of 189 Samuel Gorton Ave., Warwick, was taken to headquarters, where he refused to take a breath test. He was charged with DUI and refusal and later released with a summons.

Officer Robert Gauvin reported he was on Main Avenue around 12:50 a.m. on Feb. 2 when he saw a white sedan stopped in the middle of the street. He said the door opened and the driver vomited onto the road, closed the door and then drove around 100 yards before he hit the curb and bounced back onto the road. He said he pulled the car over and approached the driver and asked her why she stopped in the middle of the road and she said because her friend was sick and told him she was merely spitting when she stopped. She said the driver appeared to be under the influence but her passenger actually looked dangerously drunk and he called Rescue to take her to Kent Hospital for detox. He said the driver agreed to a field sobriety test that she failed. Lanie Kaykosy, 41, of 890 Park Ave., Woonsocket, was taken to headquarters, where she registered a .130 and a .126 blood alcohol content. She was charged with illegally stopping in the middle of the street and DUI and later released to a sober adult. Officer Jamie Pettit reported that her passenger was left in the care and custody of Kent Hospital.

Officer Aaron Kay reported stopping a car on Bald Hill Road around 7:50 p.m. for operating erratically and swerving across lanes at a high rate of speed on Feb. 7. He said the driver appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol. He said the driver failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a preliminary breath test on the portable breath analyzer. Kay said Thomas Foster, 46, of 91 Angel St., Providence, refused to take a breath test at headquarters. He was charged with laned roadway violations, refusal and DUI. He was later released to a sober adult.

Officer John Larivee reported he clocked a pickup doing 52 miles per hour on Main Avenue around 8 p.m. on Feb. 8. He said he pulled it over and the woman driving refused to talk to him at first but eventually said, “Well, here’s my license,” and handed it to him. He said she had a strong odor of alcohol around her and he asked her to take a field sobriety test. He said she was unsteady on her feet and asked him, “I have the right to refuse, don’t I?” He said he told her she did, so she refused to finish the test. He said she was taken to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. Katelyn C. Gormley, 28, of 123 Mayfair Rd., Warwick, was charged with DUI an refusal and later released to a sober adult.
