DRUGS

Two people from Pennsylvania were arrested and charged with selling drugs on Aug. 25 after K-9 Viking located a relatively large quantity of marijuana in their vehicle. Officer Aaron Steere reported Officer John Curley, who had detected the smell of marijuana in the vehicle, summoned him to a traffic stop at Benny’s on Warwick Avenue around 7 p.m. He said Curley had already recovered about an ounce of marijuana from the couple and wanted Viking to locate any other. He reported that Viking got excited about a duffel bag behind the driver’s seat. Steere said an additional 440.70 grams of marijuana was found in the bag. Sacon Youk, 33, of 35 Lincoln Ave. I Yeadon, Pa. and Carl Bryant, 27, of 2301 Old Arch Road in Norristown, Pa., were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

SHOPLIFTING

Fatou Khan, 45, of 10 Brookfield Rd. in Riverside, was charged with stealing $468.50 worth of merchandise from the Macy’s store in Warwick Mall on Sept. 9. Lost prevention told police they saw her make a trip to her car with a handbag bulging with goods and then return with an empty purse and conceal more merchandise in the purse before she was stopped as she left the store without paying for any of the goods. She was later released with a summons for District Court.

Gabrielle Leilani Coscarella, 21, of 363 Child St., Warren, was charged with stealing a $38 shirt from the JC Penney store in Warwick Mall on Sept. 6. Loss prevention told police they saw her conceal the shirt and then leave without paying for it. She was later released with a summons for District Court.

Marc A. Medeiros, 22, of 78 Sutton St. in Providence, was charged with stealing a bottle of cologne worth $110 from Macy’s on Sept. 6. He was charged with shoplifting and then held for the bail commissioner as a bail violator. He was later released on $1,000 surety bail.

Robert Hiitt, 28, of 18 Blaisdell St., Cranston, was charged with shoplifting on Sept. 7 at the Walmart on Post Road. Loss prevention told police he selected a 42-inch LG television set worth $348, removed the sensor and placed it in a cart with two bags of goods he had already paid for and wheeled it out of the store, making no attempt to pay for the television. He was held for the bail commissioner.

WARRANT

Officer Jacob Elderkin reported pulling a car over after he saw it almost hit a curb on West Shore Road and learned that the driver had an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of Westerly for larceny. Renee Remak, 41, of 3957 Old Post Rd., Charlestown, was later released to the Westerly Police.

LARCENIES

A Foster woman told police her laptop bag and lecture notes went missing from her truck on Sept. 5 when it was parked at Chili’s on Bald Hill Road while she had dinner with her family. She said she found the passenger window smashed when he came back to her truck. Her husband told police someone must have thought a laptop was in the case. Nothing else was missing. No witnesses or suspects.

Police reported two instances of breaks performed by people seeking metal material to be sold as scrap. The owners of T-Tech Machine on Knight Street reported about $3,000 worth of aluminum plates and round stock, stainless bar stock and stainless round stock missing from their storage areas. They provided police with a thumb drive containing surveillance of the company to police to provide suspects or witnesses.

National Grid reported 10 feet of copper ground wire was taken from a substation near 3069 Post Road on Sept. 5. A supervisor for the company told police someone cut back the fence around the station ton gain access to the wire. He told police he believed the thieves had been scared off or received some sort of shock to account for the relatively small amount of copper missing. He said he already called a fence company to repair the damage to the fence.

DUI

Officer Russell Brown reported he was dispatched to the Taco Bell drive-thru around 11:35 p.m. on Aug. 31 for an intoxicated driver vomiting and throwing things at the window as she yelled. Brown said he came upon the suspect on Toll Gate Road near Centerville Road, where he saw the car speed through a red light at Craig Road and onto Centerville when he stopped her. He said she appeared to be drunk and smelled of alcohol. He said he gave the driver a field sobriety test that she failed. He said there was a sober adult in the car and he turned it over to that person as he took Jessica Illas, 28, into custody and then to headquarters, where she blew a .082 and a .077 blood alcohol content on the breath test. She was charged with DUI and running a red light and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Quentin Tavares reported he was dispatched to a three-car accident with injuries near 3900 Post Rd. around 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 31. He said a witness at the scene told him that the driver of one of the cars got out and put what looked like a liquor bottle in the trunk of his car and then got back in his car. Tavares said he spoke with the man and noticed that he smelled of alcohol. He said the driver gave him a variable story about his license being in the trunk when he was asked but contradicted himself. He said he asked him to open the trunk and he found a cooler inside, with a bottle of Smirnoff vodka inside that. He said the man agreed to but then refused to complete the field sobriety tests and refused a breath test at headquarters. Nathan Russo, 38, of 1236 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett, was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Kevin McGuire reported he was dispatched to an accident near Centerville Road and Diamond Hill Road around 7:40 p.m. on Sept. 5. He said he asked one of the drivers to take a field sobriety test and she complied. He said she admitted she had been to a bachelorette party earlier and had some drinks. He said she failed the field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters, where she refused a breath test. Amanda G. DiMeglio, 24, of 290 Beechwood Dr., Cranston, was charged with DUI and refusal and later released with a summons.

Officer Nicholas Reay reported an accident near the IHOP restaurant on Post Road around 11:35 p.m. on Sept. 5. He said the driver of one of the cars appeared to be under the influence and he asked him to a take a field sobriety test. He said the man indicated he had several pints of stout and smelled of alcohol. He said the man failed a field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters, where he blew a .220 blood alcohol content on the breath test. Kenneth J. Pierce, 23, of 50 Winter Ave., Warwick, was charged with DUI, second offense and for no proof of insurance. He was later released with a summons to Kent Hospital for detox.

Sandra Goncalves, 45, of 200 Post Rd., Warwick, was charged with DUI and refusal on Sept. 5 after Officer Thomas Duncan stopped her for driving erratically on West Shore Road around 12:25 a.m. on Sept. 5. He said he told her she was being stopped for not using a turn signal and stopping in the middle of the road. He said the driver looked at him without doing or saying anything and it took her minutes to get her papers out. He said she appeared to be drunk and failed a field sobriety test. She was taken to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. She was charged with DUI, refusal, no proof of insurance and not wearing a seat belt. She was later released with a summons.

Police stopped Kara M. Beck, 33, of 99 Youngs Ave., West Warwick, on Bald Hill Road around 12:23 a.m. on Sept. 4 after she was clocked by radar at 67 miles per hour on Bald Hill Road. Officer Sokphannareth Chea said she appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol. He said she appeared to be confused about where she was and how she got there and told him she dropped a friend off on Warwick Avenue and was going home. He said she failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test at headquarters. She was charged with DUI, refusal, speeding and running a red light. She was later released to a sober adult.
