BREAK-IN

Officer Daniel DiMaio reported he was dispatched to Sam’s Food Store at 651 Main Ave. Oct. 7 around 3:45 a.m. for a report of a front window being broken. When he got there, he said the window was actually the glass front door and he could see that several items had been thrown on the floor, indicating that someone had gone inside. He said a check of the building was negative for suspects inside and the owner arrived to report that the cash register, a digital model that costs $1,500, was missing and that it contained $226.67 in bills and change. Photos were taken of the scene and the report was forwarded to detectives. No suspects or witnesses.

NO SAMARITAN

Officer John Madden reported he was dispatched to the Tumble Town laundry in Meadowbrook for a report of a stolen wallet around 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 15. A customer there told Madden he left his wallet on the table for a few moments while he went to the change machine. He said he came back to find the wallet was gone. He said there was an older couple there at the time and they helped him look for the wallet with no success. He said they reviewed the video provided by the owner of the laundry and it clearly showed an older man with gray hair pick up the wallet and put it in his pocket. The victim told Madden he actually knew the man on the video and it was the same man who helped him look for the wallet. Madden said he was familiar with the man pictured on the video. He said there was also a video from Haxton’s next door that clearly gave him the plate number of the gray Lincoln as it left the area. It came back to 880 Oakland Beach Ave. Madden said he went to that address and saw the Lincoln outside and spoke with the owner. He said he asked the man where the wallet was and the man denied he took it. Madden said he told the man he had him on video taking the wallet and asked again where it was. He said the man went to the refrigerator and took a jar off the top and found a second jar underneath that contained the wallet. Madden said the man claimed he took custody of the wallet because he thought he knew who it belonged to. Madden said he had no reasonable explanation for having the wallet other than he stole it. David G. Morgan, 66, was charged with larceny and later released with a summons.

Rule of thumb, if you are going to any parking lot always place all of your valuables in the trunk of your car before you get there.
