EMBEZZLED

Officer Stephen Major went to Macy’s in Warwick Mall on Dec. 12 to speak with a loss prevention manager who told him she was checking employee packages as they left the store and found three items in a bag belonging to an employee that were not paid for or had no receipts. She told him the employee was taken to the office and interviewed by other loss prevention personnel who said she admitted a number of thefts, at least four, but could not put a date to any of them. They said the total amount of merchandise she admitted taking was $605. Berlinda R. Brunson, 23, of 4 Cedar Pond Dr., Warwick, was charged with embezzlement and held for the basil commissioner.

SHOPLIFTING

Jessica J. Brotka, 27, of 47 Middle Dr. in Providence, was charged with shoplifting at the JC Penney store in Warwick Mall on Dec. 11. Loss prevention told police they recovered five pieces of clothing worth $142. She was later released with a summons.

Geraldine A. Fraga, 60, of 127 Vermont St., Cranston, was charged with stealing $20 worth of clothing from the JC Penney store on Dec. 10. She was charged with felony habitual shoplifting because of three prior convictions.

Two women from Cranston were charged with stealing from the JC Penney store on Dec. 13 after loss prevention told police a pair of spandex pants went missing after one of the woman took them into a dressing room. The loss prevention agent said she entered the dressing room after the woman left and found nothing there, which prompted her to stop her as she was leaving the store. She told police she found an old pair of similar pants in the woman’s purse and said she was wearing the new pants. She told detective Kevin Petit that the pants she was wearing were old and pointed to a rip in them. The loss prevention agent told Petit they were not ripped when she first stopped the suspect. Petit believed the loss prevention agent and arrested Victoria Lizotti, 23, of 12 Essex St. Briana Corsi, 22, of 825 Pontiac confessed to stealing cosmetics and was charged with shoplifting as well.

STOLEN GIFTS

Officer Keri-Ann Leighton reported going to Rhode Island Mall on Nov. 28 for a report of larceny from a car there. She said she met with two women, who told her they had done some shopping at the Target store on Bald Hill Road earlier and then came to Kohls for more shopping. They said they came out of Kohls and noticed that the Jeep they came in was broken into and several purchases were missing. They said a 48-inch television, a blanket and throw and some shoes worth a total of $324.97 were gone. Leighton said they provided receipts for the items but did not have a serial number for the television.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Officer Jacob Elderkin reported a dispatch about a drunk driver leaving the Sports Legends Pub around 11 p.m. on Dec. 6. A bartender at the pub told police an intoxicated man came in and was refused service and left, in spite of customers and staff asking him to have some water or sleep it off in his truck. They said he drove off in a black pickup. Elderkin said he did a U-turn and caught up with the truck and watched it weaving over the double yellow lines several times before it turned onto Warwick Neck Avenue and hit the island at the intersection. He pulled behind it as it stopped at 28 Warwick Neck Ave. He said the driver appeared to be drunk and dropped and then stepped on his eyeglasses getting out of the pickup truck. He said he attempted to give the driver a field sobriety test, but he was too unsteady on his feet to do it without falling down and had to be held up. The driver refused a preliminary breath test with the portable analyzer and was taken to headquarters, where he refused a Breathalyzer test. Terrence D. Martin, 67, of 28 Warwick Neck Ave., was charged with DUI and refusal. He said Martin refused to call someone to come and get him at headquarters, so he was transported to Kent Hospital for detox.

STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR FIGHTING

Two Pilgrim High School students, both 15-year-old girls, were arrested on Dec. 9 and charged with disorderly conduct after a fight in the school according to police. The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. and both girls were transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Police did not disclose a reason for the fight.
