LOST AND

FOUND

Officer William DiGiulio reports a wallet went missing from a car parked on Keeley Avenue on Jan. 16. The owner told the officer the wallet contained personal information, cards, personal checks, a driver’s license and a Social Security card. He also said there was a $50 bill, a $10 silver certificate and a $1 silver certificate. The owner told DiGiulio he returned to the car that morning and found items strewn around the interior even though he thought he locked the vehicle the night before. There were no suspects or witnesses.

The next day, Officer Walter Larson met with another Keeley Avenue resident who said he found a wallet with the IDs and checks in it and returned it to the man who reported it missing the day before. Larson said he returned the wallet and the incident was closed, even though the neighbor said he found the wallet in the “back bed of his truck, tucked behind a silver cart.”

SHOPLIFTING

Loss prevention at the Walmart in the Rhode Island Mall told police they saw a man remove a $59.88 cell phone from a display and conceal it in his pants before leaving the store without paying for it on Jan. 14. They said they confronted him outside and asked him to come back inside but he refused, gave them the phone back, got in a car and drove off. They gave the plate number to the police.

Police arrested Christina Fagone, 29, of 37 Williams St. in Carver, Mass., and charged her with stealing four dresses from the JC Penney store in the Warwick Mall on Jan. 15. Loss prevention told police she entered a dressing room with nine dresses and emerged later with only five. They said she put three dresses back, then gave two to an associate and walked out without paying for the dresses that were found in her handbag. They said the dresses were worth a total of $486. Fagone was charged at headquarters and later released with a summons.

Makia O. Bailey, 21, of 57 Salmon St. in Providence, was charged with shoplifting from The Nordstrom Rack and Claire’s in the Warwick Mall on Jan. 15. The items taken were a $79.97 pair of Uggs boots from Nordstrom and 10 pieces of clothing from Claire’s worth $180. Bailey was later released on $1,000 surety bail.

Rouzanna Tremblay, 55, of 39 Brookdale Boulevard in Pawtucket, was charged with shoplifting $194.14 worth of clothing from Macy’s in the Warwick Mall on Jan. 18 after loss prevention told police they saw her take a number of articles of clothing into a fitting room and emerge with less that she went in with, while her purse was obviously wider. Tremblay was later released from headquarters with a summons.

Brian G. Guzman, 18, of 347 New York Ave, in Providence, was arrested at the JC Penney store in the Warwick Mall on Jan. 17 after loss prevention told police they saw him conceal two items from their store worth $42. They said they had video of the incident and gave the disc to police. Guzman was later released with a summons.

WILLFUL

TRESPASS

A West Warwick man was charged with willful trespass at the Warwick Mall on Jan. 16. Officer Stephen Major said mall security told him a man in the food court had been trespassed from the mall earlier this month by the Warwick police and mall security. Nathan Harrington, 19, of 19 Andrews Ave., was arrested and taken to headquarters, where he was charged and then later released on $2,000 surety bail.

LARCENIES

A Warwick man told police a $300 iPhone and a pair of Beats headphones worth $200 were taken from his car sometime overnight on Jan. 16 on Metropolitan Avenue. There were no suspects or witnesses.

A $500 iPhone went missing at On The Border restaurant on Jan. 10. A Barrington woman said she left the restaurant before she realized her phone was still on the table, but when she went back it was already gone. There were no suspects or witnesses.

A Warwick man told police someone entered his car overnight on Easton Avenue and took an iPod shuffle worth $50, an iPhone 5 worth $400, a $100 GPS unit, a Seiko watch worth $250 and about $30 in loose change and cash. There were no suspects or witnesses.

CATALYTIC

THEFTS

Police reported that two vehicles had been stripped of their catalytic converters at the Roger Williams Auto Sales lot on Post Road on Jan. 16. The owner of the dealership told police an employee started a Ford van earlier and noticed it was particularly loud. He said they found both catalytic converters, worth $1,000, were cut from the van. He said it was the first time that week that they started the van so they could not be sure when they were taken and would check the video with a technician and notify police if they could see any suspects.

A Coventry man told police he left his Toyota 4runner on the grass near the Arlington RV dealer on Quaker Lane in an attempt to sell the vehicle. He said he periodically started the vehicle and last turned it on Jan. 13. When he returned on Jan. 16 to start it again, it was very loud and he discovered the catalytic converter had been cut out of the exhaust system. There was no video available, and no witnesses or suspects.

DUI AND

REFUSAL

Officer Robert Hart reports that he was dispatched to an accident at Jefferson Boulevard and Route 95 around 8:40 p.m. on Jan. 9. A witness told him that a car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it missed the north on-ramp and flew off the road into a light pole – which sheared a front wheel from the car – and slammed into the embankment after sailing through the air and across the snowy grass. He said the woman standing beside the car was driving at the time. He said she wasn’t hurt and refused medical treatment but appeared to be drunk, so Officer Christopher Lo gave her a field sobriety test after she repeatedly said “her life was ruined” and pointed at the wrecked car. He said she was failing when she refused to do any tests, and was taken to headquarters where she refused to take a breath test. Jennifer Lynn Griffith, 30, of 27 Plains Field Drive in South Dartmouth, Mass., was charged with DUI and refusal and failing to control her vehicle. She was later released to a sober adult.

Officer Russell Brown reported watching a car cross over the centerlines and then give signals for turns it didn’t take on Post Road around 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 11. He said it also took turns without any signals at all before he pulled it over in the parking lot of Ann and Hope.

Brown said he had to tell the driver to get back in the car after she told him she stopped to check her tires, which were all fully inflated. He said her eyes were bloodshot and he could smell alcohol from her, but she denied she had anything to drink. He said he asked her to take a field sobriety test, and she then said she didn’t feel well. He asked if she needed a rescue and she said “Yes.” He said he was calling for the Rescue when the woman laid down on the ground and didn’t answer him. He said he took her pulse and heard her clear her throat. She was transported to Kent Hospital while she continued to be unresponsive to the EMTs. He said he read her rights at the hospital and gave her a phone call. He said she told him she would not submit to a chemical test. He said he was leaving when she said, “Thanks for taking care of me,” and then explained she was being sarcastic.

Eva M. Sousa, 42, of 20 Dixwell Ave. in Cranston, was charged with refusal, first offense, DUI, second offense, and laned roadway violations. She was left in the care of the hospital staff.
