Cranston police have named 31-year-old James Adams as a person of interest in the suspicious death of a young woman whose body was discovered in a Cranston garage last week. Adams was taken into custody late afternoon Tuesday, just as the Herald was going to press.
"We're very happy he's off the street," said Chief of Police Colonel Marco Palombo. "He is a very dangerous individual."
Cranston police obtained an arrest warrant for Adams Tuesday on a charge of felony assault that occurred in Cranton on June 30, which Palombo said is "separate from the discovery of the young woman." Within hours of obtaining the warrant, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Cranston Police apprehended Adams without incident in North Providence, with the help of Providence Police. He was expected to be arraigned Wednesday.
Col. Palombo said he could not disclose Adams' potential connection to the unidentified body, as the investigation is ongoing.
The woman’s body was discovered on Friday evening at 391 Farmington Avenue in Cranston, after neighbors called to report a strong smell emanating from the area. Police arrived on scene at 8:19 p.m. to find the body of the unidentified woman in the garage. The body is currently in custody of a medical examiner.
"We're waiting on a pronouncement by the Medical Examiner on the cause of death," said Palombo.
Police are asking those with any information on the myserious death to call Cranston Police detectives at 477-5140 or 477-5029. Police will continue to investigate the death and will release details as they become available. Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @RhodyBeat for updates on this story.
