Magic will be in the air at the Cranston High School West Auditorium December 5-7 during the fall production of the Broadway musical “Pippin.”

Directed by Nancy Vitulli, along with musical directors Mark Colozzi and Rena Anthony, “Pippin” is the fantastic story of a Prince trying to find his way in life. The Cranston West production of this Tony Award-winning musical features a cast of performers, led by a Leading Player, that tell the story of Pippin through a lively mix of song and dance.

What does it mean to live an extraordinary life? Come and join Pippin, played by Nick Gosselin, in his daring search for contentment. The scheming hand of the Leading Player, played by Daniel Saillant, guides Pippin’s journey to find his “Corner of the Sky.” Pippin’s odyssey forces him to decide between the glory of power and the enjoyment of the simple life.

Other lead roles in the show include Rosdom Mkrtschjan as Charlemagne, Kristen Huetteman as Fastrada, Kayley Sullivan as Berthe, Katrina Rossi as Catherine and Sean Sova as Lewis.

Under the direction of Theatre Director Nancy Vitulli, the Cranston West Theatre Program presents two main stage productions each year, including a musical in the fall and a one-act play in the spring for the RI State Drama Festival. In the spring of 2014 Cranston West performed “The Orphan Train” at the State Drama Festival and placed first. These performances are popular and well-attended community events and present an opportunity for Cranston West students to participate in a variety of performance styles and play genres. Past productions have included “The Wizard of Oz,” “Hair,” “High School Musical” and “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

A Cranston native, Vitulli is a graduate of Cranston High School East, New York University and Adelphi University of New York. She has served as theatre director at Cranston West since 1996.

Show times for “Pippin” are Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Cranston West Auditorium. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door.
