RI Film Festival revisited

After two outdoor weekends in the sun and rain at the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, I spent an entire week in a dark theatre at the 18th Annual Rhode Island Film Festival.

It was my 18th year of watching the world’s best independent films, many of which have gone on to win Academy Awards in the short film category.

Set aside some time next August to attend this internationally acclaimed event and see the future movers and shakers in the film industry. It is one of the few places you can watch independent films, including live and animated shorts.

The Haven Brothers film took the Grand Prize in its category, along with an inspiring film about ace combat and test pilot Bob Hooper, titled “Flying the Feathered Edge.”

Watch for these two great films as they seek out distributors.

A complete list of all the winners is posted on the festival site. Just type in

RIIFF.
