RI Hospital recruits participants to study new treatments for psoriasis

Posted

Rhode Island Hospital is recruiting volunteers for a study on an investigational drug for the treatment for psoriasis, which is a chronic skin condition causing thick, itchy, reddened patches.

Study participants must be age 18 or older and have a current diagnosis of psoriasis. The study requires application of a topical ointment to affected areas, examinations by board-certified dermatologists and study-related clinic visits. The medication and visits are free, and qualified research participants will receive compensation for time and travel.

Enrollment will continue through December 2015. Study participants will need to be available for at least four clinical visits over a period of 56 days.

Although it is not considered life threatening, plaque psoriasis is a medically significant autoimmune disease that can profoundly impact quality of life and cause physical and mental disability. Approximately two to three percent of the world’s population is affected with psoriasis.

For more information about the study, call the Rhode Island Hospital dermatology research unit at 444-7853.
