(Ridiculous cop-buddy disaster)

Ryan Reynolds plays Nick, a Boston cop who is murdered by his partner (Kevin Bacon) and finds himself being sucked up to a sort of purgatory, where he is given the chance to return to Earth in the Rest In Peace Department, chasing monsters who are hiding among the living to avoid their final judgment.

If that’s not enough to make you avoid this monstrosity of a movie, he is partnered with Jeff Bridges, who plays a cop from the old Wild West. Bridges is as abrasive and irritating as can be as he chews up the scenery, shouting his lines and overpowering Reynolds at every turn.

Nick discovers that his old partner is stealing gold, fooling around with his wife, and in cahoots with the monsters. We watch the monsters bounce off Boston buildings and hide out in the scoreboard at Fenway Park. Watching any of this is pure torture.

Rated PG-13, with all kinds of violence and poor taste.
