Raimondo makes stop at Pilgrim Center

Posted

Governor Gina Raimondo visited the Pilgrim Senior Center Wednesday afternoon, the day after releasing her proposed state budget, which called for better funding senior centers, and various elderly services such as Meals on Wheels.

Mayor Scott Avedisian and Charles Fogarty, Director of the Rhode Island Division of Elderly Affairs joined her at the Center.

Raimondo has visited the center several times while she was campaigning and she said, “You guys said you needed more money, and that’s what we are doing. We are doing what we said we would.”

She walked through the center meeting with various seniors, answering questions concerning the state of Rhode Island. She received several questions on the toll proposal. She assured the men and women it would only be for “big trucks” and gantries rather than toll booths, using a camera to pick up EZ Pass signals.

She said the bridges haven’t been properly maintained in years and now the state is stuck with the problem of them deteriorating.

“Now it’s going to be twice as expensive than if we would have just taken care of them,” she said.

Following a half hour stop at the center, Raimondo visited SESA Manufacturing in Warwick. The company produces dynamic message signs.
