Randy L. Wojtanowski, an original character, playful and caring father, jokester, and open-minded thinker, passed away January 31, 2014 after battling cancer.

Randy was a son of Joseph F. Wojtanowski and the late Frances (Roy) Wojtanowski. Randy enjoyed waking up in the middle of the night for a bowl of cereal and sharing childhood memories with his two children, Alexandria and Jake. He was an unhurried soul, but had a quick wit. Making people smile came very naturally to Randy and when he started to tell a joke or share a humorous story, everyone in the room crowded around in silent excitement. Head Chef at Governor Francis Inn for 11 years and prior to that employee of Twin Oaks for many years, Randy was a friend to all—new acquaintances, old friends and co-workers. He remained close with many of the neighborhood kids from his childhood, including best friend, John Donelan. He was a caring friend although his friends were often the victims of his pranks.

Randy dreamed of being a millionaire, of practicing an organic lifestyle, and of making the most of each and every day. He was never quite a millionaire, but was undoubtedly rich in personality. He encouraged his children to stand out from the crowd and especially to be silly without worrying about who is watching. More than anything, during his last year, Randy loved to prove the doctors wrong again and again. He prided himself on beating expectations and was successful every single time.

Randy would always stress how important it is to have different experiences and he was wise beyond his years because of his experiences in life. His legacy includes a multitude of life lessons, but most of all, be easy-going and laid back; look through the negativity in life and go for joy; actively decide to make memories every single day.

Randy lived with the love of his life, Joan Fontaine, and together they dedicated much of their time to their mushy oddball pit bull, Hazel. Although he was a middle child, Randy always looked out for his brothers and sisters, Kelly DeSimone, Debra Vasquez, Joseph, David and Lynda Wojtanowski. He was an uncle of 10, including his oldest nephew Mike Watterson, who was more like one of his brothers.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 4, at 11 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Visiting hours Monday 5-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Randy’s childrens’ educational funds, PO Box 442, Slatersville, RI 02876 will be appreciated. Information and condolences, visit TheQuinnFuneralHome.com
