Raymond L. Walsh

Raymond L. Walsh, age 98, of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Sunnyview Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Catherine E. (Flannery) Walsh.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Laurence K. and Anastacia A. (Sutton) Walsh. Mr. Walsh worked for the United States Government at Quonset Naval Air Station during World War II, in the personnel department. He later worked for the United States Internal Revenue Service in Providence, where he was the Director of Personnel until his retirement in 1983.

He was the beloved father of Mary E. Ciunci (her late husband, Gilbert) of Barrington; Richard D. Walsh and his wife, Darlene of East Greenwich; and the late Edward L. Walsh, Sr. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren, three loving step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Walsh was the grandfather of the late Edward L. Walsh, Jr. and the late Richard E. Walsh. He was the brother of the late Thomas K., Edward J., and Eileen A. Walsh; and the brother-in-law of the late Reverend Edward H. Flannery of the Diocese of Providence.

Mr. Walsh was one of the founding fathers of the Warwick Junior Hockey Association in 1959, and served as its first secretary. He served as the “Player Agent” of the Warwick National Little League from 1957-1960, and was the assistant coach of the 1963 Warwick Babe Ruth State Championship team. He was chosen in 1954 the “Man of the Year” for the State of Rhode Island C.Y.O. Mr. Walsh was a true Christian gentleman who loved his family, and enjoyed watching and being the best fan of his grandchildren’s sport teams. Most importantly, he loved serving the Lord. He was a remarkable, gentle, caring man.

His funeral will be held on Friday, December 30, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
