Raymond W. Giard, Jr., 73, a bus driver for RIPTA for 12 years before retiring, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Betty Ann (Trainor) Giard .

He was a son of the late Raymond W. and Mary (Hartnett) Giard, Sr. Mr. Giard played minor league baseball for the San Francisco Giants in the 1950’s and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Donna M. Layden and Patricia A. Brown, four sons: Mark D. Rodgers, Raymond W. Giard, III, Michael J. and Kenneth F. Giard; one sister, Gail Brown; twenty-one grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Robert R. Rodgers.

His funeral service will be held Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 p.m.
