Holliman Elementary School fifth-graders recently participated in a read-a-thon to benefit Toys for Tots raising more than $1,500. Over the past five years, school drives have raised more than $7,000, which was used to buy toys for the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots charity. “The students are eager to help other children less fortunate than they are. Students incorporate math skills learned in class to create and keep within a budget when making their purchases,” says teacher Beth-Anne Rafanelli. Also working on the drive were fifth grade teachers Sonya Yazidjian and Susanne Warrener. Here, the class gathers outside Wal-Mart where toys were purchased. (Submitted photo)
