The Pawtuxet Athletic Club held their 8th Annual Memorial Fishing Tournament on May 29. The PAC Fishing Tournament began as a tribute to the memory of two departed members of the club: Jay Shaw and Everett Souza. Although Jay and Everett were several decades apart in age, they found a common bond and friendship in fishing. It is in their memory that the fishing tournament was started as a way to raise money for charities. This year, the tournament committee selected The Wounded Warriors and Saint Mary’s Home For Children as the beneficiaries of the $7,000 that was raised. A check was presented to each organization for $3,500. The success of this annual event is due to the support and charitable donations received from the PAC members, local businesses, and anchored by the generous support of Pettis Marina. The finale on June 6 consisted of a live band, a raffle with many great prizes, and door prizes, as well as free hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza. The PAC Fishing Tournament Committee looks forward to continuing this event next year with the generous support of its established sponsors, and hopes to grow through the support of additional new sponsors. PAC Tournament Committee Members pictured from left are back row: Michael McVey, Bob Souza, and Jimmy Gosselin, and front row: Fred Chiarini, Susan DeRita (St. Mary’s Home for Children), and Bill Shaw.
