The Toll Gate Educational Complex was renamed earlier this year for Robert J. Shapiro, the first principal of Toll Gate High School. Shapiro started his 50-year career in Warwick schools as a history teacher and concluded it as superintendent. A ceremony renaming the complex and recognizing Shapiro’s contribution to Warwick schools was held in June. At that time, a sign, designed and built by students at the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center, was unveiled. On Tuesday, Fred Aldrich and Richard Hough erected the sign at the Centerville Road entrance to the complex.
