More than 125 reporters from throughout the Ocean State attended the annual Rhode Island Press Association Awards banquet at the Quonset O Club Friday, with journalists from Beacon Communications earning honors. Winners included Warwick Beacon Sports Editor William Geoghegan and Assistant Sports Editor Kevin Pomeroy, who together won an honorable mention for “Best Sports Front Page.” Pomeroy also took home third place in the “Sports Story” category for an article he wrote for the Beacon’s sister publication, the Johnston Sun Rise. Beacon reporter Jessica A. Botelho won two third place awards in two categories, including “Science/Health Care” story and “Unique/Most Unexpected” news.
