Robert C. Hoxsie, 79, of Cranston, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Hebert Nursing Home in Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of Rosalie (Knuckles) Hoxsie.

He was a son of the late Robert E. and Signe L. (Steele) Hoxsie. Mr. Hoxsie was employed as a mail handler at the Providence Turnkey Post Office for 40 years before retiring. He was also employed part-time for the Leonard Levin Co. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a military veteran for 30 years. While stationed in Korea, he played baseball and football. He was a state champion pitcher for St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, where he was also a center on the football team. Mr. Hoxsie is a member of the New England USSSA Softball Hall of Fame. He played and coached softball for the Post Office team. As USSSA Director, he has coached Branch 18 USPS. His teams competed in 9 national championships and competed in various tournaments, 5 in Hawaii, 14 trips to the world’s largest softball tournament in Virginia. His teams won ASA, NSA, and USSA state championships. He also worked and coached with the Warwick National Little League. Mr. Hoxsie’s family had owned a farm at Hoxsie Four Corners and was lost during the Great Depression.

He is survived by two sons, Randall C. Hoxsie and his wife, Christina, and Ronald C. Hoxsie and his wife, Patricia; four grandchildren, Randall, Branden, Aidan and Taylor Hoxsie. He was the brother of the late Richard Hoxsie.

His funeral service will be held Friday, July 5 at 10 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m.
