For the 10th year, New England Institute of Technology hosted Rhode Island’s FIRST Tech Challenge. Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is designed to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in students through the use of robotics. And the way NEIT runs the event, it does more than that. The action rarely slows down, with music booming, spectators cheering and emcee Mike Daniels, a 2015 NEIT grad with a Bachelor of Science degree in digital recording arts, who rode a hover board, providing ongoing commentary. The winners are Rhode Rage 1 from Aquidneck Island Robotics, the Westerly Bulldogs from Westerly High School and North Robotics from North Kingstown High School. They will advance to the FIRST EAST Super-Regional Competition to be held March 18-20 at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. (Warwick Beacon photos)
