Rocky Point without clamcakes

To the Editor:

Rocky Point is a unique Rhode Island park. It has meadows and hills with huge boulders that possibly were left by a glacier 20,000 years ago. From these hills with venerable oaks, one can see the meadows, the ocean and the islands. Rocky Point had many years of human manipulation. Let’s let it be now!

Concerning the Thursday, March 12 article in the Warwick Beacon called “A case for clamcakes at Rocky Point”; while I like clamcakes and chowder as well as anyone, I am against having a building or a clamcake truck at Rocky Point. Does the city of Warwick or the state have the money to pay for the inevitable cleanup of paper plates and utensils? There are plenty of other places in Rhode Island along the water where you can enjoy chowder and clamcakes.

If not, come to Rocky Point, have a picnic and clean up after yourself! Rocky Point has a lot of potential. I don’t even know if we should open up the second parking area.

Sit at the park bench near Rocky Beach and look out at Rocky Point. Look for the swans, the Canadian geese and mallard ducks, and listen to their sounds. Life doesn’t get any better than that!

Rocky Point is a harsh environment and is susceptible to the unavoidable rise of the oceans. What a place to be when the fog rolls in. It is quiet now. Let the ghosts of Rocky Point rest!

Mr. Baker, Rocky Point has been quiet for 20 years, where have you been? Rocky Point has potential, but let’s get rid of parking lots? Do you really believe that if a food truck or concession comes in that people will become complete slobs, and picnickers won’t? There are plenty of other places in Rhode Island along the water where you can enjoy the birds and the fog.

Attention Warwick residents, especially Warwick Neckers! Rocky Point was not purchased by ALL the residents of Rhode Island simply to improve local property values or to become a private park for the select few who happen to live nearby. Events WILL be held there again, prepare for them.

If there are ghosts at Rocky Point, it’s because they came for the clam cakes, chowder, and rides, then stayed.

    The Berg.
