Rudolph M. “Rudy” Barber, 86, of Meadowbrook Terrace, Warwick Avenue, and formerly of Wilbur Avenue, Warwick, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2016 at West Shore Health Center in Warwick with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of 45 years to the late Carol P. (Leblanc) Barber, who passed in 2014. He was also the husband of the late Doris C. (McInerney) Barber.

Born in Winchendon, MA on December 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles P. and Annette (Rouleau) Barber, and was the brother of the late Roger “Bob” and John Barber, and Exilda Laporte. Mr. Barber was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a parachute rigger for over 4 years. He later served 13 years in the RI National Guard attaining the rank of First Sergeant. Rudy worked as a foreman rigger for the former Zavota Bros. in Providence for over 35 years before retiring. He was later employed as a driver for Arrow Limousine in Warwick for several years. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local #251, the Meadowbrook Terrace Tenants Association and was Past Exalted Ruler of the Warwick Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #2196, where he was very active in lodge activities and events, and “called” Bingo for their weekly Bingo night on Tuesday'.

Rudy is survived by his children and step-children, Nancy Piacente of Providence, Catherine Morris of West Warwick and Florida, Patricia Kent of Warwick, Charles J. Barber of Alabama, Christine Cloud of Coventry, David J. Smith of Warwick, Lisa M. Blair of Warwick and Jeffrey M. Smith of Portsmouth. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his cat “Baby,” and many friends, especially his best friend Carlos. He was predeceased by his step-daughter, Sandra L. Smith and grandson, Michael Barber.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, with family reflections at 6:30 p.m.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at 12:30 p.m. in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Condolences available at www.barrettandcotter.com
