The long vacant Atwood Grill on Post Road was razed this week. The Rhode Island Airport Corporation bought the property in December 2008 with the expectation it would be used by the airport. With the redesign of the Runway 16 Safety Area to include engineered material arresting system (EMAS), the property was deemed unneeded, according to RIAC, and made available for sale. In May, RIAC entered a purchase option agreement with the Procaccianti Group that owns and operates the Comfort Inn. Procaccianti then moved to have the building demolished. (Warwick Beacon photo)
