Fire Chief James McLaughlin held the first of monthly fire station open houses Saturday at Station One in Apponaug. The event saw a steady stream of visitors who got the chance to see the station and meet firefighters. The events that will shift from one neighborhood fire station to the next are designed to acquaint area residents with the facilities and the people there to serve them in times of emergencies. Sharing the wheel of an engine are Owen Andrade and Sam Dakan. Making sure Owen doesn’t touch something he’s not supposed to and stays in the seat is his grandmother, Toni Ford.
