Kaitlyn Nelson, age 9, daughter of Jon and Michelle Nelson, competed in the International Princess and Prince Pageant held July 30 and 31 in Stamford, Connecticut. Kaitlyn took home a medal for best informal wear and a medal in best formal wear. She took home a trophy as 3rd runner-up for photogenic and 4th runner-up in modeling and received the National Princess trophy in combined model and beauty scores. This was her first pageant and she was the only Little Miss Rhode Island to compete. The Nelsons were among those families who lost virtually everything in the Four Seasons fire last September.

I met this "princess" at the fundraiser for the Four Seasons Apartments fire victims last October. Her family lost literally all their worldly possessions in seconds and by a miracle, they got out alive. I am proud to report that I donated $500 out of my own personal funds, not my campaign account, to this noble cause. (and if any critic wants to call me out for reporting it please make a donation over $500 first!). Mayor Avedisian was there too. He met with all the guests for about an hour and a half and then left. When he did, I noticed that Michelle Nelson was on the verge of tears and I asked her what was wrong. She told me "He didn't leave a donation!" "He didn't even buy a raffle ticket!!" I don't know how anyone can go to a fundraiser for homeless victims and not leave a donation when your salary is $100,000 a year. Here's what I do know. Scott Avedisian doesn't deserve to be Mayor. He went to a fundraiser for the sole purpose of gathering votes and didn't have the common courtesy to donate a nickle! I have publicly criticized him numerous times on this issue. Nothing has stopped him from making a donation as "better late than never" but he still hasn't. That level of arrogance will be his downfall. He used the tragedy that caused 27 families to lose their homes, for his own selfish political gain and "he didn't even buy a raffle ticket!" I am outraged!

I just got call from Michelle. She said she appreciated my comments and agreed to let me give her phone number to anyone who wants to donate. Call Jon or Michelle Nelson at 401-332-0417. Also, there were 48 families that lost their homes, not 27 as I incorrectly recalled.

Dick (yes, your parents must have know how you would turn out...)

My God, you are a more egotistical, self-centered blow-hard nut bag than I originally gave you credit for. True charity is anonymous, there is no need to brag. I often give to worthy causes, but there is no public display of my donations -- it is enough that I know that I have made a small difference in someone's life. The Mayor may give to charities of his choice, or possibly he doesn't, but either way it is his choice as it is your choice whether to donate or not. Your behavior is becoming more reckless all the time, and I'm sure you are loosing many more votes than you are gaining with your hatred and conspiracy theories of late.

I'm with you, KM. Dick just keeps reaching new depths. And it's only his word that the mom "appreciated (his) comments."

Here's what his word is worth on another topic; Dick has yet to answer for it: http://warwickpost.com/correntes-attacks-fail-on-the-facts/

And it's Dick who's using this tragedy for political purposes by breaking his arm to pat himself on the back for making a donation, but as he's shown already, he's not one to let facts get in his way.

Sad Rick that you would even mention this. It's sad that you bring this up as a campaign issue. It never should be used in this type of way, and it speaks to how terribly inexperienced you truly are. I agree with the previous comments that your behavior is becoming reckless. You are attacking the mayor throwing you know what against the wall, begging for something to stick.

-Now what about the article in the Warwick Post?

-What about the claim that your taxes didn't triple?

-You were asked what your property tax cut (rate) would be? You haven't answered.

-Asked multiple times how many seniors are eligible for 50% of car taxes paid? Or what this would cost? You haven't answered.

-What would it cost for building permit fees to be frozen for 2 years? Waiting on an answer.

-Your website says you are going to build a better relationship with the school committee yet you do nothing but tear them apart on this message board for political gain. Why would they work with you when all you do is grandstand against them? Ms Ahearn basically disqualified your opinion on the Ragosta matter, so what right do you have to criticize the mayor?

-How expensive will it be to negotiate pension buyouts? I know I wouldn't leave a job unless I was getting a better deal to leave.

-Bullet point #8 (from the Corrente website) says "REDUCE THE SALARIES OF ALL NEW HIRES" which is funny because Bullet point #9 is "I WANT A HIRING FREEZE". Seems like your "cutting spending" by smoke and mirrors. Did you not think anyone would read your plan Rick???

So please Rick spare me the outrage when you can't answer the simple questions of your own plan. You can fill a paragraph on a comment section but when things get tough you fold. Instead of "cutting spending" and "cutting taxes" why don't you cut the BS!!!! You will no longer get to spout nonsense with these cheap, petty attacks without being called on your own crap.

Yes, Jon, it sure is sad that a candidate for office would use your daughter's accomplishments to praise himself. Sorry that you had to witness that; the rest of us are sick of Mr. Corrente's antics, and I apologize if our responses to him have caused you offense.

I also will apologize to you Jon, it wasn't my intention to take away from this event. I certainly wasn't trying to bring negativity to it. I just found Mr Corrente's comments troubling and unnecessary. I should've taken into account what the article was actually about, for that I am sorry.

Congratulations to your daughter on her great accomplishment, and God bless you and your family for all you've been through.

    Dear KaptainMorgan and CrickeeRaven,

Although neither of you are willing to give your real names I am sure of one thing. Neither of you donated a penny to the Four Seasons Fire Victims, but there is still time as mentioned in my second comment.

    Dear Scal,

You call me "terribly inexperienced". I prefer to call it an "unblemished record". Avedisian can't say the same. He has a long term reputation for showing up, collecting votes and spending nothing. I do make that a campaign issue because it shows his lack of character. I have witnessed it so often. I have seen him come to many Democratic fundraisers, enjoy a free meal and not donate a nickle. (and don't forget, Scott is a Republican) That tells a lot about the kind of person he is, don't you think?

Scal, have you ever done that? I haven't, and I bet you haven't either.

As far as the rest of your 8-plus questions, I have answered them several times in the past. Please read my website at www.correntemayorwarwick.com or, better yet, call me! I have offered that to you before but you seem to prefer this venue. That way you can accuse as much as you want, even though I have answered your accusations before. We can talk one-on-one. What are you afraid of Scal? My phone is 338-9900

Oh, Dick, there you go again complaining about online pseudonyms and playing bully to people who dare disagree with you.

And how exactly do you know whether anyone has donated to the relief fund? Answer: you don't.

I also see how you ignore answering questions about your out-and-out lies about your tax assessments versus Scott Avedisian's. Here's the link again: http://warwickpost.com/correntes-attacks-fail-on-the-facts/

Oh, and as far as the information on your website: you say your office is "on the Warwick/East Greenwich line." It's at the entrance to Goddard Park, which is in East Greenwich. The "line" is at Potowomut, 2.5 miles away, according to Google Maps -- almost as far away as the other town line, up on Rte. 1. So, not only did you pay no property taxes on your home and got no tax increase on your other two properties this year, you don't pay business taxes in Warwick, either.

You're a tax cheat, Dick, and $500 to displaced fire victims, while admirable, does nothing to change that fact.

Rick, you really haven't answered those questions. You have said it'll cost money up front, but raise more in revenue in the long term. My problem with that is, if you can't tell me how many seniors/veterans are eligible for 50% of their car taxes being paid, how do you know it'll raise more in revenue in the long term? It's a very fair question. I'm using the car tax as an example but the same could be said about your plan of freezing building permit fees. Say what you want about the mayor, O Reilly Auto Parts, Dollar General, Buffalo Wild Wings, Arooga's, SmashBurger, Chic Fil A...I could fill this column with businesses that have expanded in this "bad tax climate" that you hammer the mayor on.

As far as your attacks on not giving you my name...I'm not the one running for office. I find it funny that you're so bothered by it. Do you call your anonymous donors (if there are any) and ask them what they are "afraid" of? You have a funny way of thinking Rick. You equate money to caring, and that says alot about YOUR character. You are bothered by the fact that others, including myself have blown a whole in your whole platform. That is the true reason for your petulant behavior.

I have visited your website. You say that you're going to reduce the salaries of all new hires. The VERY NEXT thing on your website says "I want a hiring freeze". How are you going to reduce the salaries of "new hires" if you plan on instituting a "hiring freeze"? That is smoke and mirrors, disingenuous, dishonest budgeting. Were you hoping people didn't actually read what's on there? You also say you want a better relationship with the school committee...is that why you berate them in the comment section of every Beacon story? Is that how you improve the relationship between the two? Sorry Rick, until you're honest with the voters in this city, I will continue to call you out on this nonsense. You're down big and getting desperate, and it shows more and more every day.
