Pamela Spence-Bakker formally stepped in as interim pastor of Woodbury Union Presbyterian Church in Conimicut on Sunday. She will hold the post until the congregation chooses a full-time pastor, a process that has started as a five-member nominating committee, looks over questionnaires given to all 110 congregants to best match their goals and mission with candidates for the position. This is a third career for Spence-Bakker, who was ordained in 2000 and served as a pastor in Long Island, N.Y. She is married to a Presbyterian pastor who recently retired and the couple moved to Bristol, where they are living in the house where she grew up. Spence-Bakker said “many are looking for a call,” and with more pastors than churches she is confident Woodbury will find its match. Spence-Bakker attended the Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange held Friday at the church and is pictured here with longtime church member Richard Deering. (Warwick Beacon photo)
