As Hendricken senior James McIntosh tells the story, when he found his mother Jennifer was doing 22 pushups a day for 22 days he wanted to learn more. The 22 Pushup Challenge is aimed at bringing awareness that, on average, 22 American veterans commit suicide every day. Jim quickly joined in the effort and then wondered if the entire school with more than 1,000 students might also lend their efforts to the cause. He spoke with Principal Jay Brennan, who loved the idea, making it an opening activity of the school’s Olympics Day held Friday. To spread the word, Jim rallied a couple of friends to take photos and videos while yet others got aerial views from two drones. All of this went onto social media with the intent of focusing attention on issues faced by our veterans and the unanimity of the Hendricken community in recognizing that need.
