Roger Williams Park Zoo rings in the holiday season this Saturday, when Santa makes a grand entrance in a horse-drawn carriage at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the zoo’s parking lot. His wild arrival will be the first of several appearances at the zoo.
Santa’s arrival is free to the public. After Santa arrives, he’ll head up a festive holiday parade through the zoo that will also include some of his elves, Very Merry Dickens Carolers, characters from Ten31 Productions, Classic Story Book Characters, various local mascots, and more! The parade will conclude in Jambo Junction with Santa singing a carol with the crowd.
The zoo is offering hay rides in the parking lot this year. Starting at 9 a.m., the rides are approximately 10 minutes long. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for children (ages 2 to 12), and free for children 2 and under, and may be purchased at the ticket booths in the admissions plaza.
Following the parade, visitors will be treated to a fun assortment of holiday themed photo opportunities in the Wilderness Plaza and Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard with characters from the parade (Santa excluded). The parade and photo opportunities are free with zoo admission.
In addition to Santa’s arrival, the zoo has more fun with Santa in store for families looking to enjoy a more personal experience with the Jolly Old Elf. Guests will be able to visit with Santa himself while enjoying a tasty treat and fun activities for the whole family. Visits will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., Nov. 24 & 25, and Dec. 1 & 2. Tickets may be purchased as guests enter the event, which will be held in the zoo’s greenhouse.
