Scott Carlson Road Race set for Saturday

Posted

The 13th annual Scott Carlson Memorial 5k Road Race/Walk, presented by Flood Ford, will be held this Saturday, April 20 at Warwick’s Goddard Park. All proceeds from the event benefit Rhode Island families struggling from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The kids’ fun run on the beach begins at 9:15 a.m., while the adult race/walk starts at 10 a.m. at the bridge by the beach inside Goddard Park. There will be tons of food, drinks, a bouncy house and face painting for kids, and the first 750 pre-registrants will receive a gift bag containing a long-sleeve tee shirt, four free Pawtucket Red Sox tickets and more.

There is a $1,000 cash purse for the race, which is U.S. Track and Field sanctioned. As a closed course, it will not be run on any open roads, and runners from 13 different states will participate. All of the money earned will stay in Rhode Island for patient care, and over $400,000 has been raised over the past 12 years.

Register online at www.teamals.org or at the Goddard Park Carousel on Saturday at 8 a.m.
