At a medal ceremony April 21 at the T.F. Green Airport Military Lounge, Frank Poli, 92, of Providence, a Navy World War II veteran, finally received the military decorations he earned for his service.

U.S. Senator Jack Reed presented Mr. Poli with a number of awards, including the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Campaign Medal, in recognition of Mr. Poli’s service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

“Today, we honor the service rendered by Frank Poli during World War II. I thank Frank and his fellow veterans for their extraordinary service to our country, and extend my gratitude to his family as well. Frank and so many of his fellow World War II veterans are humble about their service and it is important to remind them that the sacrifices they made for our nation will never be forgotten,” said Reed, a former Army Ranger and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The attention to orders from the medal ceremony lauded Mr. Poli’s “exemplary conduct, efficiency and fidelity while on active duty engaged in combat operations with an enemy of the United States during World War II.” The orders continued: “Mr. Poli’s service was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Navy and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States of America.”

In addition to the medals presented, Mr. Poli also earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with 3 bronze star appurtenances; the combat action ribbon; the discharge button; and the honorable service lapel pin.

Mr. Poli was 21 years old when he enlisted in military service in November 1942. He was born in Providence.
