Share-A-Haircut to benefit homeless

Posted

In the first few days of February, Hair Cuttery Salons across the nation will hold a Share-A-Haircut Fundraiser to benefit the homeless population within their respective communities.

The Hair Cuttery is a family-owned chain of hair salons with 900 locations across the nation. Based out of Virginia and a division of Ratner Companies, they offer “value-priced,” no appointment necessary hair consultations for cuts and styling, among other things.

During the fundraiser, which will be held Feb. 2 and 3, for every haircut purchased, a special certificate for a free haircut will be donated to a homeless citizen in the respective communities.

Chenoa Robertson, Ratner Companies’ field marketing specialist for New England, wrote in an email, “A new haircut can inspire self-confidence and pride – and there’s one group of people who need those things more than ever: our nation’s homeless.”

When the program was first started, it focused on children heading back to school who may not have the funds to get a haircut before the New Year. In 2014, though, the program was expanded to encompass the homeless, victims of domestic abuse and violence as well as veterans, with the company holding several fundraisers a year for various causes.

“Last year’s expanded Share-A-Haircut program was an enormous success, to date the program has reached more than one million people. This year we plan to continue that momentum, helping those less fortunate the best way we know how, with a haircut. Our stylists hope to help inspire confidence by giving back in this way,” Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery, said in the national press release.

For this fundraiser, Hair Cuttery’s first for the year, the company hopes it can help 35,000 homeless throughout their 900 locations with free haircuts.

The haircuts given at Warwick’s location will be included in New England’s count before the cumulative free haircuts are distributed through various organizations across the region.

The Share-A-Haircut fundraiser will be held on Monday and Tuesday, the 2nd and 3rd of February. The local Hair Cuttery is in the Stop & Shop and Lowe’s Plaza at 615 East Greenwich Ave.
