Shell station revises plans

To the Editor:

In continuing to keep the residents of Ward 7 updated on an expansion proposal by the owners of the Shell station on the corner of Main Avenue and Greenwich Avenue, I wanted to share the latest developments.

In October, the owners of the gas station, Colbea Enterprises, voluntarily hosted a forum to discuss their plans with Greenwood residents. Invitees to the forum were mostly residents living on and around Chapmans Avenue. At the meeting, over 25 citizens raised a number of questions and concerns regarding the proposal. The main issues raised included concerns about noise increases from the proposed drive thru, increases in neighborhood traffic, increases in trash, and potential depreciation in home values.

Colbea took a number of suggestions from this meeting and adjusted their proposal. They are now proposing closing the Chapmans Avenue curb cut, as well as closing the western driveway on Main Avenue. They plan to institute a “right turn only” sign for the driveway on Greenwich Avenue, and to add more evergreen trees to the buffer on the southern and western property lines. While additional changes were made to the original proposal, Colbea's revised plan still includes adding a Dunkin' Donuts drive thru.

Please note that the Warwick Zoning Board of Review will be meeting to discuss this proposal on Tuesday, January 10th at 6 p.m.in the Warwick City Council Chambers. The meeting is open to the public, and residents will have the opportunity to express their thoughts on the project. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to call me at 287-1813 or to email me at mcallisterforcouncil@gmail.com.
