(Quirky romantic comedy)
Bradley Cooper stars as Pat, a bipolar man released by his mother (Jacki Weaver) from a mental institution, where he had spent eight months for beating his wife's lover to a pulp.
Pat is working on his anger issues and is trying hard to think positively and put his life back together. His unrealistic goal is to straighten himself out and win back his estranged wife.
The problem is that Pat has returned to his dysfunctional family, where his father (Robert DiNiro) has even worse anger problems, plus a bigger gambling problem.
Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a young lady with her own set of emotional problems who agrees to get Pat's letter to his wife, even though she has a restraining order against him.
And this is a comedy!
Actually, it is an interesting study of two troubled people who slowly bond. The opposites slowly are attracted to each other through some far-out adventures.
While the movie does show the dark side of mental illness, it is loaded in humor, passion and compassion. It's a bit quirky but has a big heart.
Rated R, with some sex and profanity.
