Skippy’s: The perfect place to bring your hungry crew – no matter the occasion

Sometimes, there are no words to describe "perfection". But these adjectives come to mind when describing a plate of hot, steaming onion rings straight out of the fryer at "Skippy's" ~ golden brown, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, slightly salty, addictive. The onion rings at Skippy's are made just like all the other menu selections here -homemade with the freshest ingredients, and often created with owner Mark Hinsley's closely guarded secret recipes. The batter on these rings is made on the premises with the perfect combination of ingredients so that when they are dunked in the hot oil, the batter puffs up and the onion rise to the surface. This makes them light and fluffy too! Served with a special homemade chipotle sauce (even the mayonnaise is homemade) - these onion rings are just simply indescribable.

Skippy's is the creation of Mark Hinsley, a self-professed food lover and cook who doesn't take short cuts when preparing fare for his popular "snack food" bar. Found in the Meadowbrook Bowling Lanes on Warwick Avenue, Skippy's serves up much more than just crispy onion rings. All of the items on the long and extensive menu are made-to-order from hand-cut and hand-prepared ingredients. Nothing is ever canned or frozen here, including all the vegetables which are freshly slices every day - especially NOT the burger patties. And don't even think of interrupting Mark when he is making his sausages; like all of his food, these favorites require his full attention.

Come in to Skippy's and treat yourself to something fresh off the menu. There are so many options to choose from, including specialty pizzas (made with Mark's homemade, flavor-ripened marinara sauce), prize-winning wieners, hand-pressed Calzones, both hot and cold Subs (served on crusty rolls delivered daily from Crugnale's Bakery), succulent burgers, perfectly seasoned meatballs (better than mom's!), Chicken Parmesan and an endless supply of snacks from the fryer. Try their hand-breaded Chicken Fingers, Spiral cut fries, Mozzarella Sticks (with real mozzarella cheese), jumbo-sized Fried Mushrooms, and even hand-dipped Fried Pickles. All the sauces are also made from scratch. You have to taste them to believe them.

Did you know that April is the month that voters throughout the state can go online and vote for their favorite foods and restaurants? It is not too late to go on to RIMonthly.com and recommend Skippy's to your fellow Rhode Islanders. It wouldn't be fair to keep this great destination a secret from those beyond Warwick, now would it?

Skippy's is located at 2530 Warwick Ave inside Meadowbrook Bowling Lanes. Hours are 11:00am to 9:00pm, daily. There is even FREE delivery, with no hidden costs - ($10.00 minimum). Call 935-7030 or "like" them on facebook. All major credit cards are accepted.
