The Providence Sky Chiefs, the newest team in the American Basketball Association (ABA) will host the Staten Island Vipers on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Bishop Hendricken High School at 2 p.m.

The Providence Sky Chiefs currently rank No. 14 in the 76-team ABA and enter this Saturday’s game at Hendricken with a 9-4 record.

The Sky Chiefs are led by Pawtucket’s Shane DaRosa, a graduate of Shea High School, who played for the Cape Verdean National Team. DaRosa leads the Sky Chiefs with 19.1 points per game. DaRosa is shooting 60 percent from three-point land this season. He is one of five Sky Chiefs averaging in double-figures, including Virginia’s DeShaune Green (16.7) and California’s DeRonn Scott (13.1). Mark Alexander and Corey Wright Jr., both of Providence, are averaging 14.2 and 11.4, respectively.

Damel Wilson, the Sky Chiefs’ 6-foot-10 center from California, is averaging 11 rebounds per game.

Tickets will be available at Hendricken. For more information, visit www.providenceskychiefs.com .

The Sky Chiefs, the Ocean State’s first professional basketball team in more than nearly three decades, joined the ABA in 2014 as part of the league’s expansion.

The ABA has blossomed into a 70-team league. Notable alumni include NBA greats Marvin Barnes, Moses Malone and Julius “Dr. J” Irving.

The Rhode Island-based player development team is coached by former University of Rhode Island standout Kyle Ivey-Jones and is the brain-child of team owner Giovanni Feroce, the Chairman and CEO of BENRUS LLC., a military inspired lifestyle brand. The Sky Chief is one of BENRUS’ iconic watches. Known for its accuracy, it was the official watch of pilots during World War II and commercial airlines in the 50’s and 60’s.
