Small fires spark up the city

Several fires occurred over the weekend, none of which have been especially devastating. The worst was on Namquid Drive on Sunday. The American Red Cross is helping two adults with emergency housing and food needs after a fire Sunday on Namquid Drive.

Red Cross volunteers responded to assist the family, Florinda Lataille, 53, and Tyler Lataille, 20. The family told firefighters they evacuated the house after they smelled gas and noticed a small fire at the exterior corner of the small house that caused no significant damage.

The Red Cross also provided comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant and shaving supplies. They also got some helpful information about recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup and important contacts dealing with damaged items and more.

Mostly smoke

Warwick fire crews responded to the former Gold’s Gym at 200 Bald Hill Road shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday night after a fire alarm went off inside the building. The building was recently taken over by Global Gym. Fire crews said a small fire started in the electrical room, causing a great deal of smoke. Firefighters told the owners there was no structural damage and a clean-up should allow the gym to open within a week or two. Firefighters said no one was in the building at the time and no firefighters were injured bringing the fire under control. Crews continue to investigate the cause of the apparently electrical fire.

Garage fire

Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of a fire at Fred’s Autohaus at 2157 West Shore Rd. shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday. A passerby noticed thick smoke coming from under the front door and fire stations down the street arrived quickly to extinguish the fire, which apparently was confined to the front inside corner of the building that housed the office and the waiting area. No word on when the garage will be open again as of yesterday.

In reference to the fire on Namquid Dr, the story is incorrect. We were awakened to smoke in our home and had nothing to do with gas.

    Also the damage was significant.

I belive our neighboor called the police and mistakenly told them the story.

    Thank you
