Speaking up for public speaking

Professor Adam Roth, interim director of the Harrington School of Communication and Media at URI, gave members of Academic Decathlon teams across the state a primer in public speaking last Thursday. Roth gave students pointers in how to prepare for the prepared and impromptu speech portions of the competition that will be held March 20, 2016 at the Knight Campus of CCRI. New England Institute of Technology hosted the workshop that concluded after the students divided into groups, talked about what they had learned and, in some cases, even delivered two-minute impromptu speeches. Seen here, Roth addresses the students and students gather for a round table discussion with Mark Harris of the Wheeler School and a member of the Decathlon board. Students from left are Kevin Dusseault from Pilgrim High, Cailin McCaffrey and Kelsey Degnan from La Salle Academy and Roberto Cabrera from Central High School. (Warwick Beacon photos)
