State Police find 17-year-old trafficked at Motel 6

Rhode Island State Police reported finding a missing 17-year-old from Massachusetts at the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard on Friday. Troopers said they arrested Adolfo Hernandez, 21, of 21 Sutton St. in Boston, for sex trafficking and selling crack cocaine. On March 20, members of the Major Crimes Unit found out that the 17-year-old was depicted in photographs offering “to show you a good time” in online advertisements. The investigation led detectives to Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick. The girl had run away from state custody in Massachusetts on March 16 while at Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro.

Hernandez was arraigned at State Police Headquarters and ordered held without bail at the ACI. The girl was returned to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

This investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be brought against others involved in the crime, even customers who engaged in sex with her. The penalty for sex trafficking a minor is punishable by up to 40 years in jail and $40,000 in fines.

State Police encourages other victims or witnesses of human trafficking to contact law enforcement. A help and support network is available for victims. Combating incidents of human trafficking requires cooperation from the public and victims. Anyone with information about of human trafficking is encouraged to contact the Major Crimes Unit of the Rhode Island State Police at 444-1046.
