Few things go together as well as summer nights and jazz. Join journalist and film connoisseur Steve Starger for three movies about the pain and pleasure of jazz at Warwick Public Library on Thursdays, July 14, 21 and 28 at 7 p.m.

On July 14, see The Glenn Miller Story (1954), starring James Stewart and June Allyson. Unknown trombone player Glenn Miller finds success when his song “Moonlight Serenade” becomes a worldwide hit, until his plane is lost over the English Channel during WWII.

On July 21, watch Bird (1988), starring Forest Whitaker and Diane Venora. Virtuoso saxophonist Charlie “Bird” Parker moves to New York City where he joins other jazz luminaries in the creation of bebop before drugs and alcohol kill him at age 34.

The series ends July 28 with ‘Round Midnight (1986), starring Dexter Gordon and Franois Cluzet. In a twist, real jazz saxophonist Dexter Gordon plays a fictional musician struggling with addiction and depression when a French fan unexpectedly brings him to Paris to save him.
