Sun, Sand and Music: Misquamicut Springfest is back

The summer season is about to begin at Westerly’s Misquamicut Beach. The Sixth Annual Misquamicut Springfest weekend supersedes five years of successful spring/fall festivals, which have attracted over 12,000 visitors each from Rhode Island, Connecticut and nearby states. Misquamicut Springfest kicks off a jam-packed weekend beginning Friday May 13th featuring live music, rides, local food, wrestling, fire juggling, karate demos and more.

Music begins at 6 p.m. with two great bands: Green Tea followed by Will Evans and Rising Tide. An elegant fusion of fire dancing, spinning, fire hoops, unicycling and stilt walkers will roam the festival. From then, until 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, Springfest will offer activities for the whole family with a full line up of entertainment on two stages, an outdoor international food court, a chock-full midway of rides, a petting zoo with pony rides, and two classic car shows with DJ and 102.3 The Wolf’s Mike English.

Pinnacle Wrestling will be back at SpringFest on Saturday, May 14 from 1-3 p.m. and new this year will be “Rey,” the new Jedi from Star Wars. Join her as she trains young Jedi from the crowd on Saturday and Sunday. The Springfest will also feature The Westerly Morris Men who continue to delight the crowds.

Admission is $7. Children 3 and under are free. Parking is free.

Nearly two dozen New England food vendors will be on hand to serve local festival favorites from chowder to sausage and peppers, fried dough, kettle corn and seafood dishes. In addition, over 30 crafters and commercial vendors will sell their wares. Home Depot will hold a workshop for children each day. Kids can henna tattoos, hair wraps, and face painting while adults can enjoy rides, crafts, shopping for handbags, t-shirts, jewelry, and housewares. Classic Car Shows will be held Saturday and Sunday from 11 until 3 with with local DJ’s, plus on air personalities from 102.3FM The Wolf. People’s Choice awards and prizes.

Pinnacle Wrestling Entertainment will present the first Wrestling matches at SpringFest 1-3 p.m. Come see the main event: PWE Championship Match featuring Heavyweight Champion “Royalty” William King defending his championship against “The American Luchadore” Cinco Estrella.

Walk the midway of world-class rides including the Ferris Wheel, Scrambler, kiddy rides and games. Little ones can visit the Circle K Petting Zoo, enjoy pony rides, and the watch the Interactive Hula Hoop Dancer. They can even enjoy a special rock wall with the National Guard. Martial Arts demonstrations, fire jugglers, the comedy and juggling of Robert Clark, magic shows and kid favorite The Julie and Brownie Show all await.
