Warwick Police have arrested a Warwick man who allegedly lured a Subway sandwich shop worker from behind the counter on Friday morning and attempted to sexually assault her before she broke free and called police.

Police received the call at about 9:23 a.m. from the woman saying a patron had just assaulted her.

Upon their arrival, officers located the victim, who said she was working alone at the Subway located at 345 Providence Avenue at about 7 a.m. when a lone male entered the shop. She sold the man a cup of coffee. He stayed in the shop for about 30 minutes, and then left.

The victim stated the man returned to the shop at about 9 a.m. He lured her from behind the counter by telling her the toilet was overflowing. The suspect then allegedly physically assaulted the worker, prevented her from leaving the shop, and attempted to sexually assault her.

The victim was able to fight the suspect off and escape from the shop, according to police. She immediately called the police, while the suspect fled the scene on foot, entering the Warwick/West Warwick bike path. Shortly after, the suspect was located by a Warwick Police officer and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Shawn Turgeon, a white male, 47 years of age, from 52 Merle Street in Warwick. The victim positively identified Turgeon as her assailant.

Turgeon was being charged with: 1 count of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault, 1 count of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault, and 1 count of Kidnapping. He has a lengthy criminal record.

The victim received minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

Has anyone read the history of this piece of garbage? With more than 20 years of prison sentences being issued, he has only served 4 years and 30 days. He still owes thousands of dollars in unpaid fines from years ago, and with each offense he has used a PD. Hopefully the courts will wake up and see this violent un rehabilitatable bag of pond scum as who he is and once and for all lock him up for good. Perfect example of how more chances build violent criminals.
