(Slow, weird, disappointing horror story)

It is so disappointing when a movie comes up with a good premise and then goes straight down the toilet.

Lauren Cohan plays a young American woman who gets away from her abusive boyfriend by taking a job as a nanny for an aging British couple, living in a remote English manor. Their son turns out to be Brahms, a life-size doll who they treat as if he were alive.

Off they go on holiday, leaving poor Miss Evans all alone, with specific instructions on feeding, dressing and caring for their “son.” Her only visitor is a handsome young man (Rupert Evans) who delivers groceries once a week. Of course, they take a liking to each other.

Strange things start to happen. Brahms turns up in strange locations. Miss Evans’ shoes and dress go missing. Tears flow from the doll’s eyes.

What is real, and what is happening in the nanny’s troubled mind and nightmares?

Is there someone else lurking in the attic?

Is the grocery man involved?

Well, you just have to sit through this slow, boring movie to find out. I won’t tell you, but you’ll probably be disappointed.

Rated PG-13, with violence and a few loud noises that are supposed to scare you.
