What does the “taste of paradise” actually taste like? Well, if you are a fan of lobster meat, sirimi, shrimp and scallops, flavorfully sauteed with fresh Chinese vegetables ~ then that is “paradise”. If you salivate just thinking about the Pu-Pu Platter, a veritable feast of eggs rolls, fried chicken wings, fantail shrimp, beef teriyaki, spare ribs, wontons and chicken fingers ~ then that is “paradise”! Maybe all you want is a vegetarian dish, loaded with chestnuts, mushrooms, baby corn and spicy green beans ~ then that is “paradise”! Finally, perhaps a refreshing Blue Hawaii Polynesian Cocktail is all you need to take you away from the stresses of life! Whatever you choose at The Islander, you will be transported to a paradise of delicious food, great service, and a bar full of thirst-quenching drinks.

The Islander restaurant has been serving up great Chinese food since 1972. It offers a huge assortment of appetizers, main dishes, seafood specials, fried rice, lo mein, and chop suey options – and for those with a fondness for American fare, you will find plenty of classic favorites to choose from. There is also a children’s menu for your finicky tots and tweens. If vegetarian is your preference, you will be happy to find flavorful dishes such as the Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, a combination of broccoli sauteed in rich brown oyster sauce. Come in from out of the heat this summer and cool off at The Islander’s full bar where you will find fresh cold draft beer, along with a broad selection of wines, tropical, virgin and frozen drinks to tackle those post-beach thirsts!

What you won’t see listed on the menu is one of the best features of The Islander, their waitstaff. The hosts and waiters, most of them loyal fans themselves, are warm, attentive and courteous. Many of them have seen generations of families pass through their doors, and have welcomed back regular customers who return time after time.

Both take-out and limited delivery is available at The Islander. If you are planning a party or get-together, consider booking one of their cozy, elegant function rooms. These rooms can accommodate anywhere from 25 to 80 guests. They will also cater your next special event with their extensive menu and guaranteed prompt delivery.

Visit the Islander at 2318 West Shore Road in the Oakland Beach section of Warwick. Hours are Sunday - Thursday 11:00 am to 10:30 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 11:30 pm. For take-out or delivery, call 738-9861. Be sure to check them out on their website: theislanderrestaurant.com.
