Taste of Summer event raises $26,000 for Project Undercover

Project Undercover, the only organization in Rhode Island that works exclusively to reduce diaper need, promised its 2nd Annual Taste of Summer fundraiser would be bigger and better – and it delivered.

The all-volunteer nonprofit’s largest event of the year drew a sold out crowd of 300 to Aqua at the Providence Marriott on August 18 and more than doubled the amount of money raised. Last year’s event brought in $9,000 and this year’s total exceeded $26,000. Proceeds will be used to purchase diapers, socks, underwear and baby wipes for the approximately 20,000 Rhode Island children ages seven and under living in poverty.

“Our goal was $20,000 so we were thrilled to surpass that,” said event co-chair and board member Stephanie Oster Wilmarth. “For a small, all-volunteer organization like ours to have that level of success is a testament to the outpouring of support we had from people all over the state. The generosity of Rhode Islanders is truly amazing.”

Ready to build on that success, Project Undercover is already gearing up for next August, when it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a gala event – and a goal to raise $50,000. The plans won’t be unveiled until next year, but they promise to continue the “bigger and better” theme.

“We’re very proud that Project Undercover has been able to help so many families, and we want to make sure it keeps growing,” said founder/president Richard Fleischer. “Twenty-five years for a volunteer organization like ours is an incredible achievement that we want to celebrate in a big way.”

If Warwick had an event like this one perhaps at Rocky Point, we would attract visitors to the area and visitors become new taxpayers lessening the taxes on the rest of us.

As Mayor I will promote Warwick to the rest of Rhode Island and attract as many new taxpayers as possible. In the last ten years Warwick has lost over 5,800 taxpayers and 4,666 businesses. I have a plan to reverse this trend. Please visit www.correntemayorwarwick.com

    Thank you.

    Richard Corrente

    Endorsed Democrat for Mayor

The prior comment by a candidate for mayor again proves his complete unfitness for the office. After spending 16 months attacking the city, he somehow thinks he will then be able to attract new taxpayers to Warwick.

He is also repeating a campaign claim that has been proved false, about the health of the city's business sector: http://warwickpost.com/numbers-game-corrente-claims-of-lost-businesses-dont-add-up/

Warwick has NOT lost 4,600 businesses. The US Census and Rhode Island Secretary of State use different methods of counting businesses [please read the article linked above for a detailed explanation], and this candidate refuses to even comment on being proven false, except to repeat his false claim and insult other commenters.

Please join the thousands of voters in Warwick who see through this candidate's false claims and will reject his candidacy on Nov. 8.
