On Nov. 20, Sarah Dyer Barnes Elementary School in Johnston packed up 12 Thanksgiving baskets for families of students at the school in need. The project was handled by the fifth-grade classes at the school under the direction of teachers Julie Romano and Jen Morel. The kindergarten classes were asked to bring in canned fruits, first-graders brought in pasta and chicken broth, second-graders contributed canned vegetables, third-graders brought gravy and cranberry sauce, fourth-graders provided instant potatoes, and fifth-graders were asked to bring in stuffing. The Johnston Fire Department donated five turkeys, and the remaining received gift cards for turkeys at Stop & Shop that were purchased by the school PTO. Pictured, from left, are fifth-graders Matthew Leddy, Emma Homenick, Claudia Liriano, Jahzara Asencio, Giana Moore, Janina Mazzulla, Steffy Rotella, Hannah Calabro, Lauren Hill, Anthony Sevigny, and Anthony Abbruzzi.
